#1 Panagia Keralimeniotissa Gorge

A narrow and compact gorge approximately 1.2 kilometers long. Along your route, you will encounter carob trees, oleanders, cypresses, plane trees, and waterfalls of unique beauty. The starting point is below the village of Kalami, and the endpoint is Panagia Keralimeniotissa, from which it has taken its name. The average descent time is about 2 hours.

#2 The impressive Voulismeno Aloni

Just 15 kilometers west of Heraklion, Voulismeno Aloni is a natural landscape of rare beauty. There, you will encounter a huge sunken crater. This formation has been created after the collapse of the roof of a cave. Thus, it remains to this day one of the most peculiar geological phenomena in Greece.

#3 Ampa Gorge

Its name derives from the Latin word “abbas,” meaning priest. Local traditions say that near the waterfall in the area lived a hermit, hence giving the gorge its corresponding name. During your descent, you will encounter this stunning waterfall with a height of 140 meters, which will impress you. The starting point of the gorge is the area of Timios Stavros, while it ends at the beach of “Tries Ekklisies” (Three Churches). Crossing it requires special equipment.

#4 Arvi Gorge

An imposing gorge with a total length of approximately 2 kilometers that divides the Arvion mountain in two. The abundant waters flowing from the Dikti mountain range find their way out into the gorge, contributing to the irrigation of the wider area. Along the gorge, you will encounter at least 13 waterfalls, while at the bottom of the valley, you will see the lush banana plantations of the village. Arvi Gorge has an underground network with waterfalls of approximately 200 meters. A unique geological phenomenon that occurs in only 100 gorges worldwide! However, crossing the gorge requires special equipment and significant mountaineering experience.

#5 Portela Gorge

The gorge, approximately 4 kilometers long, with its limestone rocks and white-shaded waters, is one of the most distinctive in Crete. It starts from the village of Chondros and ends at the beach of Keratokampos. Along your journey, you will also encounter a wide variety of plants and trees. It manages to uniquely combine wild beauty with absolute tranquility. Ideal for those with experience in canyon descent.

#6 Agioi Gorge

Also known as “Agiofarago,” the Agioi Gorge leads to a dreamy beach that offers ultimate relaxation and tranquility. The gorge took its name from the ascetics and hermits who sought refuge there to test their faith. Beyond the trees, olive trees, and bushes along the route, you will also encounter the small church of Saint Anthony. Built in the 14th century, it attests to the presence of ascetics in the area many years before.
